Everyone experiences difficulty, adversity, hard times, heartbreak, and night seasons. Does at least a few come to mind when the statement is said: Bad things happen to good people?
When discussing the purpose of this song, Kirby says: "Most of this song was scribbled, partly composed, semi-recorded and filed away almost a decade ago. When my father died in 2018, I had a lot of questions. My dad's passing was one of six close family members' deaths from April 2018 to August 2019. In that space of time, my mom lost her mother and her husband less than four months apart; my wife and I lost both our last living grandmas, and both our Dads too! I cried until I felt I couldn't cry anymore. And then I'd cry some more. I remembered many battles God gave me victory over and even though I was now heartbroken, I was determined not to turn my back on God. So when my strength started coming back, I did what I know works. I would pray and tell God my thoughts, and ask him how to move forward in all this grief. Sometimes my prayers would be a whisper, other times I'd be driving and the tears would just burst through my eyelids and burn. And I would tell God how I felt. Other times the pain would just hit me out of nowhere and I'd feel like doing some unimaginable things. Then one day on a flight I kept hearing God say: 'Call to me and I will answer'. I started hunting for that scripture. It was Jeremiah 33 verse 3: 'Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.' This taught me so much more about how concerned God is about all of my cares. He is ok with me telling him all about everything and anything! And looking back, Dad's last convocation theme came from 1st Samuel 30:6 where the verse says: '...and David encouraged himself in the Lord.' The Lord reminded me of the song: God Will Make A Way, which he gave me a decade ago that I had vaulted. Ironically, my already written verse began with...I encourage myself in the Lord and believe his promises. God will make a way, He will make a way... I remember looking deeper into Isaiah 40 (sometime after that initial scribble) where God promised to give power to the weak and strength to the powerless. And, those who trust in him will be renewed. Yes, christian people go through night seasons too, but this one was significantly different for me. At times I felt almost overcome. What's also amazing is that God gave me something in the past that I did not know then I would need now! So, in the most recent times when I felt like I couldn't make it and the pain was so overwhelming, whether it was momentary or a week at a time; God was reminding me that He would make a way for me. God Will Make A Way is my response to my situation in all this grief."
